FTP is a way to transfer larger files to a server. I picked FileZilla. Follow your host's directions for logging in, or check out these videos that hosthorde provided. You'll need to install the Forge Server installer for the version you are running.
It's pretty simple, just make sure you follow directions. Run your server once, to create the folders that Forge provides. Shut it down afterwards. Next you have to prep your mods. Take out ALL of the clientside mods. What is a Clientside mod, you ask? There are some strange cats out there though. Usually if it is Client-side, it will say so in the description on Curse.
Run it again to create all the Config files. Next, take all of your Configs that you've edited, and FTP them to your Server's Config folder, deleting the old ones. If you are having troubles, it could be a few things. If your server host is a dick, they might not have set the server's EULA to true. Apparently, servers automatically create and run a world without any choices by default. That's what happened with me at least.
There should be an option on your server's control panel to load a specific world. Make sure you don't load up two folders titled World, so rename it to World2, or whatever.
Run that baby again. It should be good now. If not, put in a ticket. On your side of things, make sure you re-add those clientside mods if you actually took them out of your mods folder on the client-side.
Launch your MultiMC client like normal. Click Multiplayer, and put in the server info to the Address portion. The name doesn't matter. It will search for the thing you told it to search for. As for other people I plan on taking my mods, config, and some other folders like 'Resources', needed for the Custom Main Menu and such and putting them on my Google Drive.
My buddy will download them, install MultiMC, install Forge, run it once, and then copy over the folders I provided. I haven't actually done this yet, but it makes sense to me. Anyway, I am not an expert at all.
I just Google things really well. I did have some help from the nice people here on Reddit as well. This whole process isn't really that hard, it's just that there is jack shit out there for directions. I hope that this post will help people randomly searching for help. Anyone on the same IP as yours can now join the server. In order to allow people not on the same IP to connect,you'll need to port forward your server. To do this, google Whats my IP? Take the number it gives you, copy it, and paste it into the address bar. This will most likely take you to your router's website where you can manage your router's settings.
