When shooting your photos, always opt for the horizontal rotation. You only have to take a look at some Airbnb listings to see the reason why. Vertical photos when displayed make the room look smaller by showing less width. Remember, camera phones are already quite limited with their narrow range.
Therefore, try to keep to a horizontal rotation to capture as much of your room as you can. For example, take a look at how Airbnb presents horizontal photos vs vertical photos. This is how your Airbnb photos will appear for someone searching on their phone.
Not good is it? Airbnb distort the sides of vertical or portrait photos by rotating them. As a result the photos look blanked out and cramped, which gives a bad impression to potential guests. On the other hand, horizontal photos are bigger and wider and show more of the room. The size of your photos will have a big impact on how they will look on Airbnb.
Too big and they get resized and become grainy. Airbnb recommends a photo size of x px. To change the size open your photos in a program like Paint or ResizeImage. For one thing, too much light streaming through the windows will make your rooms appear dark. The best time to take photos is in the morning and in the late afternoon.
Another good time of day is when the sun is rising or just about to set. These times will give you enough light to shoot naturally bright photos that will pop off the page. Hiding the flaws of your place is a big no-no! What I am suggesting is to show things like a small shower, a low bedroom roof or a skinny spiral staircase.
By the same token, avoid photoshopping and flaws out. You may be asking why I am suggesting to show flaws, would this scare off potential guests? In the long run it will help you, as guests can leave bad Airbnb reviews if they get any nasty surprises. When taking photos of your rooms, try to stand as far back as you can from what you are capturing.
For instance, the photo of the kitchen below shows how a close-up photo can make a room look small and cramped. While the photo taken a few steps back looks big, spacious and inviting.
They look like two totally different spaces. Little things like this make a big difference when you are considering how to take Airbnb photos. You want to give off the impression of a large, open space. A technique I recommend when you take Airbnb photos is to shoot the corners. But what does this mean? When taking photos of a bedroom, always point your camera into the corner of the room. As can be seen below, this makes the bed and the room look big and inviting. It also gives the perception of space and will make even the smallest of rooms look spacious.
This concept also applies to bathrooms and kitchens. Choose the corner of the room that showcases your space best. For bathrooms, this is usually the corner with the shower.
Meanwhile in kitchens, this is usually the corner that will show off your view or stove top. Earlier I said that using un-natural light can give you photos an unnatural yellow hue. But there are times when you can combine excellent natural light with the lights in your home. For example, your photos may be well lit, but there are shadows in the corners and in places where natural light is not hitting. Hence this would be the perfect time to turn on all the lights to try to eliminate the shadows.
Another good idea is turning on bedside lamps in all of your bedroom photos. In most rooms of your nicely styled and staged Airbnb, you will have what I like to call a hero object.
For example, it may be a vibrant throw cushion on the bed. The original photos that I uploaded are on my old computer not currently accessible , so I'd like to download them from my airbnb listing. One thing you could pursue: AirBnB has a program where they'll send a professional photographer over, free of charge. This for established host who've hosted more than X guests. But this results in terrific pictures that are much better than I could ever take myself.
So that would take care of having nice pictures uploaded for your listing. But to get to better versions of existing pictures, click to show the picture in your gallery.
Then right click and select "View Page Source" in your browser and then do a text search Control-F for 'original. That will find a whole lot of picture links, and one fo them will be to the big size image. Wow-i tried that but my search brought up results!!!! Is there an easier way? Can I write in to airbnb and ask?
Does anyone else tried to find it with success? I also posted this as a normal reply but it is already on page 2 - I added it here also for better visibility. When all of your photos are layed out in an array where you can modify the text for each photo , click on any photo and it will open as a pop up. When you compare this pic to those saved from the public page, it is like night and day!
To reorder your uploaded photos, select a photo and drag it where you'd like it to go. It will automatically save your new order. The first three photos are the most important, since they'll be prominently displayed on your listing.
Your first photo will appear in search results and will be the largest image displayed at the top of your listing. You can add captions to each photo by clicking Add a caption. To save it, click Save caption below. To delete a photo, click the photo, and then click Delete this photo under the caption box. PicBackMan was really easy to setup and has been running for 3 days now backing up all my locally saved photos to Flickr.

PicBackMan has saved me many tedious hours of effort moving many files between my various cloud and photo site services and my local computers. I am very satisfied and surprised at the same time with Pic BackMan. The service is very good and useful.
I used it to transfer my photos from Dropbox to my Flickr accound. I highly recomment it. PicBackMan was an answer to many a prayer. I uploaded approximately 85, photos in less than a month. It would have taken me close to a year to get all of those photos where they needed to go.
