Cloud-based storage services for your business. Now the important part. I have updated the post with as per the latest Google Drive features. Now without removing the syncing or uninstalling Google Drive on PC, you can delete files on your PC that without touching the web stored files.
Google added new options to its desktop application. Check the last part of my tutorial for the update again. Thank you. Deleted it from my PC and it disappeared on the web after changing to these settings. I was told that the files were still there where?
Hi, It happens. Just ignore any popup message that you see after deleting the file on your PC. It worked for me from the second attempt on wards! Really frustrating — it seems like such an easy thing to ask!
Make a copy of any of your file and rename it. Try experimenting with this file. It worked for me also after second attempt only. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Google Sheets Functions Charts Sheets vs.
Excel Docs. Hi Jayne, Make a copy of any of your file and rename it. Please enter your comment! Please enter your name here. I mean is it possible to delete a file in the Drive folder without getting it deleted from the Drive. Under this approach, you can upload from folders on your machine with any name that you like including Drive.
But there will not be any synchronisation: if you change the local version, then the on-line copy will not be updated until you load a new version for it. When I decide that I no longer need a file or folder on my computer but it's synced to Google Drive the Cloud , and I want to keep a copy of on Google Drive in the Cloud , I simply log into Google Drive through my browser, find that file or folder, and move it out of the synced folder to where it won't be synced with my computer.
That way nothing I do on my computer will affect it on Google Drive. It will automatically be deleted from my computer but if I need it again I can either download it manually from Google Drive or move it back into a synced folder or sync the folder it's in. Since it no longer exists down here on Earth, it's only in danger if Google Drive loses it, I stop paying Google for my storage and they, rightfully, delete it, or I delete it from Google Drive myself and empty my trash.
Here was my work around. What I do when I want to retain files permanently in my Google Drive, but remove them from my laptop is this:.
This only works for me because I have had Google Drive on my new computer for a while and not all of my folders sync to the computer. I store files by year so once I need files for historical use only they go to the drive only. On your computer ; go to your Google Drive preferences and uncheck all the folders you want to be able to delete from your computer but keeping them in the cloud. Apply changes. Then you can erase the unchecked folders in your Google Drive folder on your computer and they will stay in the cloud because they are not part of the "sync" option on your computer.
That will delete all the other files from your Google Drive locally on your computer, but keep the ones up in the cloud for you to access at anytime via the web browser or phone devices. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.
